What If Lexi Thompson Wins in Dubai?

Let's say Lexi Thompson beats defending champion In-Kyung Kim and past champion Anja Monke, along with Michelle Wie, Christina Kim, Anna Nordqvist, Lee-Anne Pace, Laura Davies, Gwladys Nocera, Melissa Reid, Carin Koch, Carlota Ciganda and the rest of the field at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters this week. She'd get LET membership for 2011, right? Unlike the LPGA, they don't put any age limits on membership, at least from what I've heard.

If she can play her way onto the LET, then I'd sure hope she withdraws her petition to double the number of sponsor exemptions she's allowed on the LPGA. She'd have no problem putting together as full a schedule as she wanted as an LET member. I'm sure the LET would love to have her! Too bad she didn't sign up for their Q-School and play her way onto the tour the usual way--puts a little added pressure on her this week. But if she's as good as she thinks she is, she can handle it. Good luck, Lexi!

Why would you think that Lexi would accept an LET card and try to play a full season there ? She's sticking to her 15 year old high school girl with high school friends plan to finish there.

She can't go globetrotting on her own, and a 15/16 year old girl isn't going to have a lot of friends to hang out and travel with because of her age and the other women will be out doing adult things. Mom's not going to hit the road and leave the rest of the family - and Dad still has his career going.

She's going to play LPGA events mostly in the summer when she might otherwise be travelling to LET tournaments.

Nah - she wants to stay in the US.

Ah, hadn't figured in the family sitch (didn't know she had younger siblings). Given that, I have to wonder why the same problems don't arise with travelling all over the U.S. to 12 events like she wants (or her management team wants for her/themselves). No, wait, I have to wonder why she turned pro so early in the 1st place if the only time that fits her family's schedule is the summer. And if the summer's the only time she's free, why the heck ask for 12 starts?

Even with her restrictions, however, accepting an LET card should she win makes a lot of sense. Assuming she qualifies for the U.S. Women's Open, the only trip she'd have to make would be Evian, WBO, and the immediately following events. Heck, her whole family could take a European vacation for as long as they could. It's not like the LPGA's schedule is packed in late summer, anyway.

Oh, mom and the sibs and she could stay in Europe till the Solheim Cup, provided they're all being home-schooled....
