Sybase Final Field Announced

Here's the final field for the Sybase Match Play Championship. Can't wait for next Tuesday's random draw to determine who each of the top 32 players will face in the 1st round! It's May madness, baby!

Although it states final field, it is not. They only list 63 names. One more sponsors exemption is yet to be named.

I am very surprised and very disappointed that Momoko Ueda who played last year and clearly qualified this year, chose not to play.

Thanks for the catch on the last sponsor exemption--forgot that one!

On Ueda, I'd say me, too, on the disappointment, but not on the surprise. See my comments on the 2011 LPGA schedule via the right sidebar, plus my first "As the World Turns" on new JLPGA membership rules. Given that she barely avoided Q-School last year, that there's a minimum # of tournaments rule this year on the JLPGA and that they've done away with most exemptions from early stages in their 4-stage Q-School, and that she's just started playing good golf in the last 2 weeks and she would jeopardize that momentum by jetting into the Sybase and then waiting till June to compete again, I can't say I'm surprised that Ueda--who's always split her schedule almost evenly between the JLPGA and LPGA since getting LPGA membership--would make this decision. Just shows how important it is for the LPGA to shore up its spring schedule in particular if it wants to remain attractive to golfers with other options....

Bruce your argument is filled with logic. Unfortunatley it doesn't change the fact that my favorite Asian golfer isn't coming to my hometown. Hopefully I will get to see her at the ShopRite first week of June.

If all else fails, Tony, she should be in Mirabel. That $2.25M purse seems to draw well.
