I think the issues outlined here - how destructive and crippling negative self-image and low self-esteem are and how incredibly difficult it is for an individual to overcome them - are almost impossible to understand if you haven't been close to someone who has suffered and found a way out.
Cristie has, at times, made herself hugely unpopular, because she externalises when (what some refer to as) "the mindtalk" is at it's most powerful. She may never be the nicest person on tour, but having a) resisted the temptation to judge her based on all the "horror stories" and b) seen her at least trying to be a better person I thought she deserved to be better understood than she is.
I think when Cristie talks about taking herself "less seriously"... you may find it easier to understand where she has come from if you substitute the words "hating myself, beating myself up". (I'm not saying she said those things... but it will give you a better idea of what people are going through when they get caught in that kind of cycle.)
CheersUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09452559651541249777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198629951037494295.post-2865124782703864122010-03-02T17:30:29.029-05:002010-03-02T17:30:29.029-05:00I think it was in the paragraph that started, &quo...I think it was in the paragraph that started, ""I think I'm taking myself less seriously and I'm trying to enjoy what I do more." :-)courtgolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15043365135385055405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198629951037494295.post-21387963083446906412010-03-02T16:57:57.874-05:002010-03-02T16:57:57.874-05:00Doesn't take herself seriously? Where do you ...Doesn't take herself seriously? Where do you get that? We're talking about Cristie Kerr, here, still! The Constructivisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07242149985581771922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1198629951037494295.post-57759409954273403852010-03-02T15:59:36.250-05:002010-03-02T15:59:36.250-05:00Are we supposed to "understand" our favo...Are we supposed to "understand" our favorite players now ? Geez, I just want to watch them play.

Kerr is our highest ranked American player, no doubt, but she doesn't win like an Ochoa or Shin. She puts up a win a year and a steady stream of high finishes...but the win column usually ends up with a straight number. That just doesn't add up to big galleries and lots of "understanding".

Her contentment or "happiness" isn't what I watch her for. And her choices in wine and perfume and flowers are way down on the list, too.

Does anybody really want to know that their favorite player doesn't take herself seriously ? What does that say about her attitude about her profession ?courtgolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15043365135385055405noreply@blogger.com
