Stats & Facts "Vol 11"
The LPGA was idle last week and will be idle again this week. The tour will resume next week and that will be the start of six consecutive tournaments without a break. The first four of those tournaments will be held in Asia, followed by one in Mexico, and then the LPGA will have its finale; The Titleholders Championship, in the state of Florida.
There is still a lot at stake these coming weeks, so let us look at some statistics as the top players will be fighting for some pretty important awards:
Rolex Player of the Year Award: (Winner will receive a Hall of Fame point)
1- Stacy Lewis - 184 points
2- Jiyai Shin - 128
3- Yani Tseng - 120

Player of the year award points are awarded as follows:

It appears that Stacy Lewis has all but wrapped this up. It would take someone listed above to win twice, coupled by a complete collapse on Stacy's part, to knock her out of the top spot. Considering the fact that she leads the tour with 14 top tens, that would appear unlikely. A Stacy win would be the first time an American player has won this award since 1994.

Stats & Facts - "Vol 10"
Before I get started, let me apologize for my lack of writing over the past 6 weeks or so. My wife and I have been busy following the the LPGA tour most of the summer. We have just returned from Vancouver, which is our last tournament of the year, as my wife is a teacher and starts school next week. With no more vacations planned until next spring, I will be back to writing on a regular basis.
Speaking of Vancouver, let me congratulate Lydia Ko for an amazing performance. As Suzann Pettersen said, "She made the rest of us look like amateurs." Seeing history made first hand, is something I will never forget.
The tour will now take a one week break before moving on to Virginia, for the playing of the Kingsmill Championship. This will mark the first of three consecutive tournaments, as it will be followed by the Ricoh British Open and The Navistar LPGA Classic.
The season is now two thirds complete, so let me take advantage of this break and look at the year's most important stats so far:

Stats & Facts - "Vol. 9" (Yani Tseng Fires Caddie)
The LPGA will be idle this coming week, the second of a two-week break. The tour will resume the following weekend in France with the playing of the Evian Masters. After the completion of that tournament, the tour will have another week off and then will begin a stretch of six tournaments in seven weeks that will include the year's final major, The Ricoh Women's British Open.
I think most will agree that the first fourteen tournaments of the season have certainly brought us many exciting finishes. We have seen 4 playoffs, 4 first-time winners (Jessica Korda, Azahara Munoz, Shanshan Feng, and Brittany Lang), and winners from 6 different countries--the United States (5), Taiwan (3), Japan (2), South Korea (2), China (1), and Spain (1).

Stats & Facts - "Volume 8"

This will mark the start of a very important stretch. The Ladies will play six tournaments in an eight-week period that will include two major championships. - The Sybase Match Play Championship will go about picking their matchups very differently than they have in previous years. Instead of picking from a hat, all players will be seeded by their standings in next week's Rolex Rankings. The #1 seed will play #64, #2 will play #63 and so on. Everyone get your charts ready, as this will be done just like the NCAA does "March Madness."
- Azahara Munoz has finished 12th, 15th, 2nd, and 4th in her last four tournaments.
- Natalie Gulbis has two top-ten finishes in her last three events.

Stats & Facts, "Vol 7"
Before I get started here, let me give a big congratulations to Angela Stanford. Angela became the first American player to win the HSBC Women's LPGA Championship. She did so by winning a four-way playoff, on the third playoff hole. The Constructivist has posted a detailed recap.
The LPGA will now take a 2 week break, and return to the United States for the playing of the RR Donnelley Founders Cup. This is a good time to look at some statistics and notes covering the first three tournaments of the year.

Caroline Hedwall won her fourth L.E.T tournament at the Hero Women's Indian Open. The L.E.T's schedule concludes this weekend with the playing of the Omega Dubai Ladies Open. Besides Hedwall, the field will include LPGA regulars Michelle Wie, Anna Nordqvist, Christina Kim, Sandra Gal, Sophie Gustafson, and Lexi Thompson. I am back from my 10-day trip to Mirabel for the Canadian Open. Lots of things have changed since I last posted, so let's get started.
The Titleholders Championship:
6 more players have qualified since my last posting. Ryann O'Toole, Vicky Hurst, and Hee Young Park got in via the Safeway Classic; andTiffany Joh Jennifer Johnson, Jenny Shin, and Hee-Won Han via the CN Open.

Tony Jesselli's LPGA "Stats & Facts," Vol 2
I am back from my 10-day trip to Colorado Springs, where I think I spent as much time in the "Trophy Club Tent" keeping dry from the many rain delays as I did on the course. First, I must congratulate So Yeon Ryu for coming out on top during this grueling week of golf.
I spent most of my time following Paula Creamer who played 66 holes in 2 of her days on the course and 6 holes on the other 2 days she played.
Also I would like to give a big congrats to Ryann O'Toole. During the first 3 days of practice rounds and the first day or two of real play, the crowd would point to her and say, "That is the girl from the Big Break TV Show," by Saturday everyone pointed to her and said, "That is Ryann O'Toole." She seems to have the look, the charisma, and the game to be a fan and sponsor favorite.

Qualifying this week were So Yeon Ryu, Hee Kyung Seo, and Inbee Park. Ryu is not an LPGA member and I was surprised to see she qualified for this event as earlier this season a non-LPGA member finished in the top 3 and didn't qualify. I called the commissioner's office and was told that had she finished in second or third place, she would not have qualified, but the rules stipulate that a non-member would qualify if they were victorious, which she was. Katherine Hull now is the highest-ranked player on the "priority list" yet to qualify.

Tony Jesselli's LPGA "Stats and Facts," Vol. 1
As most of you know by now, I don't get myself involved often in after-tournament recaps. I try to leave that to the people like The Constructivist, Hound Dog and Ruthless Mike who have been doing this for a much longer time than I have. What I enjoy most is providing statistical analysis.
With that in mind I would like to start a monthly feature called LPGA "Stats and Facts" that will have some stats that you may have seen already, but most that I have put together myself and you will be seeing them for the very first time. I hope you will enjoy.
First off I would like to congratulate Yani Tseng on another impressive LPGA victory. The State Farm Classic turned out to be a real shoot-out, and Yani certainly had the most accurate weapons. She has proven week in and week out why she is the #1-ranked player in the world. She now has 2 wins and 7 top-10 finishes in her 9 starts this year.

Qualifying for the Titleholders Championship this past week were Se Ri Pak, Mindy Kim and Wendy Ward. The highest-ranked player not yet to qualify is Inbee Park.
