Just as I predicted, the showdown between the 2 previous winners on the SunCoast Series, Meredith Duncan and Maria Hjorth, fizzled this week at West Orange, as both blew up in the final round. Stacy Lewis, fresh off my leaving her out of my projected LPGA top 30 in 2010, played the steadiest among the rest of the field, beating Sandra Gal by 3 shots in the end.
Just as at Rio Pinar, Hannah Yun played solidly the 1st 2 rounds, but struggled in the final one. Still, she ended up T5 with Hjorth and Cindy LaCrosse (for the 2nd week in a row), for 3 straight top 5s to kick off the 2010 season. It was also nice to see Na On Min putting up 2 solid rounds so early in the season. She's going to be playing a full LPGA schedule this year, thanks to a medical exemption.

Good stuff, Con. I got to meet several of the real Sun Coast level players at Demo Day for the Merchandise Show. (they were pretty easy to pick out from their swings)
Watched Christie Appleton hit some drivers. She's 5'10", just graduated from UNC Wilmington, and was punishing balls with the driver. She's going to stay an Am this year to play the UGSA nationals one more time, then take a shot a Q-school. The swing shows lots of potential, but her scoring in college tells me her short game needs some work before taking on the pros.
Paula Creamer was SMOKING hot on stage at the Bridgestone booth. (tight black mini skirt, stilleto's, and a black leather jacket) She says she's put the weight back on that she lost too much of when she was sick last year. The wrist feels 100%. And she's ready to go at it again.
Whoo-hoo! Thanks for the update, CG!
