So Yeon Ryu Takes the Lead with a 61 at the Australian Ladies Masters
Playing preferred lies on a soft course, So Yeon Ryu dropped a sizzling 61 on the field today to take a 4-shot lead on Christel Boeljon at the halfway point of the Gold Coast RACV Australian Ladies Masters. The KLPGA phenom and 2011 U.S. Women's Open champion's career-low round makes quite a statement the week before her debut as an LPGA member, but the tournament is not yet hers. Sure, Ryu has a 7-shot lead on Bo-Mee Lee and Nikki Campbell from the JLPGA, an 8-shot lead on less-decorated players Diana Luna, Felicity Johnson, and Amelia Lewis, a 9-shot lead on Queenslander Bree Arthur, a 10-shot cushion on Hee-Kyung Seo, Ha-Neul Kim, Gwladys Nocera, Lexi Thompson, and Pernilla Lindberg, and nothing to worry about from Hee Young Park, Katherine Hull, Kyeong Bae, Melissa Reid, Tamie Durdin, Tiffany Joh, Kristie Smith, and Belen Mozo, who all missed the cut. But it's looking like there'll be a lot of low rounds out there the next 2 days, so she'll have to keep the pedal to the metal.
