Kim Kaufman and Mitsuki Katahira were tied at -3 in regulation at the Island Resort Championship in Harris, Michigan, on U.S. Women's Open Sunday, Kaufman by firing the low round of the day, a 5-birdie 68, and Katahira by bouncing back from a birdie-less 39 on the front with an eagle-birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie start to the back. Unfortunately for her and her fans (including me), Katahira needed to make a 15-foot bogey save on the 1st playoff hole, while Kaufman 2-putted for par from 8 feet. Still, it was Katahira's best performance in the U.S. as a professional and moved her up to #14 on the Symetra Tour money list. And it's hard to be mad about a 1st-year pro winning in only her 3rd start on tour by birdieing her 53rd and 54th holes and parring her 55th--and moving into the top 10 as a result.
Only 7 events left to go on the 2013 schedule. Might be worth a Constructivist Family trip to Syracuse at the end of the month for the Credit Union Classic....
