For Another Paula Win I'll Be Hopin', As I Head Out to The Open

The dust has yet to settle on the just-completed LPGA championship and it is already time to look ahead to what I consider the most important Major Championship, the U.S. Women's Open. At this time last year, my wife and I were heading out to Oakmont Country Club with very little expectations for our favorite player who was coming off recent thumb surgery. To our delight, Paula Creamer won her first Major Championship on a course where she was the only golfer to break par. Paula seems to have gotten her game together, with three top-five finishes in her last four tournaments. Defending will not be easy as this is the only championship standing in the way of Yani Tseng's career Grand Slam. Here are some of the details:

Course: Broadmoor, East Course
Where: Colorado Springs, Co.
Defending Champion: Paula Creamer

Field:
156 Players
Par: 71
Yardage: 7,047

Here are the pairings for the first 2 days.

As you read this post I will be headed out to Colorado Springs hoping for a repeat of last year. The last person to successfully defend this title was Karrie Webb, who won in 2000 and 2001. No matter whom the winner is, I know this will be a very enjoyable trip as these girls always put on quite a show.

If you can get out there it is worth the trip; if not, here are the television times:

Thursday 7/7 - 5:00PM to 9:00PM ESPN2
Friday 7/8 - 5:00PM to 9:00PM ESPN2
Saturday 7/9 - 3:00PM to 6:00PM NBC
Sunday 7/10 - 3:00PM to 6:00PM NBC

All above are Eastern Standard Times.

Tony Jesselli's Player of the Year Update:

1- Yani Tseng - 183 Points
2- Stacy Lewis - 116
3- Cristie Kerr - 95
4- Suzann Petterson - 94
5- Karrie Webb - 87
6- I.K. Kim - 86
7- Morgan Pressel - 84
8- Paula Creamer - 73
9- Brittany Lincicome - 71
10-Michelle Wie - 64

Interesting Fact of the Week:

Suzanne Pettersen and I.K. Kim are the only players to finish in the top 20 in every event they have played in this year. Both have played in 8 tournaments.

Biggest announcement of the week:

The LPGA has announced a brand new tournament starting in 2012. A 3-year contract was signed with Manulife Financial. This tournament will be played in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, June 18-24, 2012.
