For the first time since I can remember, the LPGA.com stats pages got updated on a Sunday--just like the PGA and JLPGA! Let's take advantage by comparing key stats among the top 20 on the U.S. and Japanese tours:

Note that Ji-Yai Shin's stats do not (yet?) include her win, which was worth ¥14.4M--how conveeenient! (Although I suspect she may not have joined the JLPGA before then.)

A few major differences stand out: only 7 of the JLPGA top 20 are making 3 or more birdies per round, while only 3 of the LPGA top 20 are not; 8 of the JLPGA top 20 are getting top 10s in half or more of their starts, while the top 2 on the LPGA are the only ones to do this; only 1 person on the JLPGA has a scoring average under 71 (although it would be 2 if both Shin's tournaments were included), while the 10th LPGA player with a similar scoring average, Hee-Won Han, is not even in the top 20 on the money list (she is #23).
I don't know if the courses are harder on the JLPGA or conditions are tougher (I vote for the latter, on a hunch), but I do know that only a handful of the top JLPGA players should even be considering LPGA Q-School: Ji-Yai Shin, Sakura Yokomine, Miki Saiki, Miho Koga, and Bo-Bae Song (if Fukushima and Moromizato were going to have done it, they would have already, and it's far too late for Fudoh, not that she would do it now of all times). But they should keep in mind the LPGA is no picnic. For reference, here are the stats of the 2 best JLPGA youngsters to come over thus far:
33. Momoko Ueda $.16M 72.54 2.89 22.2%
50. Ai Miyazato $.09M 72.90 2.13 0%
Shin, by the way, has a chance to be highly ranked on both the LPGA and JLPGA in addition to her home tour, the KLPGA. There's no question she should come over. But the rest should really consider the decision carefully, at least based on their early-season stats.

Most likely, Shin's JLPGA victory qualified her as a member so they started counting her stats after that.
I would say weather has to be the reason for the higher scoring averages. March & April conditions in Japan can't be as good as Hawaii, Singapore, Arizona, Florida, etc.
I think temperature-wise the spring weather in Japan compares well to thsoe places, but wind-wise and chance of rain-wise, it doesn't. Now, if they played every event in Kyushu, it probably would be better, but I guess they can't!
Good point on Shin's victory getting her membership--still more generous than the LPGA, which makes its non-member winners wait till next year to join, right?
Correct - and they only grant one exempt season for that victory whereas members get three.
