A quick look at the leaderboard of the Michelob Ultra Open shows that many players in the morning groups scored or are scoring worse than they did on Thursday. There are, of course, notable exceptions--most notably Christina Kim and Johanna Head. But the leaders in the afternoon groups have a rare opportunity to separate themselves from yesterday's large lead pack. Who will take advantage?
[Update 1 (2:36 pm): Add Jeong Jang to that notables list! She was the first player in the field to break the -8 barrier (which Jimin Kang hit and bounced back from) and is the leader in the clubhouse at -9. And Hee-Won Han deserves an honorable mention, as her 68 virtually ensures she'll make the cut on a much tougher day for scoring.]
[Update 2 (5:08 pm): With their birdies on the 3rd hole, now both Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa have gotten into double digits under par. With 6 holes to play, how much further can they separate themselves from the field?]
[Update 3 (9:02 pm): Annika is bogey-free for 36 holes and at -12 has a 3-shot lead on Ochoa and Jang. Paula Creamer is 10 shots back and Suzann Pettersen made the cut on the dot but is 12 shots back. Meanwhile, Mi Hyun Kim withdrew after her opening 69--hope her knee isn't reinjured. And a host of great golfers missed the cut, including Seon Hwa Lee, Morgan Pressel, Ai Miyazato, Jane Park, Angela Park, Brittany Lincicome, and Momoko Ueda. Michelle Wie shot a respectable 71 to join them. For the full recap, see Hound Dog's latest effort.]
