Not long after her come-from-behind LET victory over Stacy Lewis in Dubai, Pornanong Phatlum leads a trio of Taiwanese golfers at the Hitachi Ladies Classic on the TLPGA after following up her opening 70 with a 69 today. But Teresa Lu is not one of them. In fact, despite being heavily featured in the tournament's promotional material, the Mizuno Classic champion was a late scratch. Instead, Pei-Yun Chien is 3 behind Phatlum, the JLPGA's Phoebe Yao is 4 back, and Min Lee is 5 off the pace.
Further down the leaderboard, with much less of a chance to spoil Phatlum's chance to make it 2 worldwide wins in a row, sit fellow Thai Nontaya Srisawang, JLPGA rookie Yun-Joo Jeong, and 2013 Symetra Tour winner Wei-Ling Hsu at +1, Korean Bo-Mi Suh and American Tiffany Tavee at +3, the LPGA's Amy Hung and LPGA hopeful Babe Liu at +4, and the JLPGA's Lala Anai and Yuki Sakurai at +5.
It's not too long before they tee off halfway around the world from where I'm writing. Let's see if Phatlum can make a statement for 2014!
