Futures Tour Update: Rachel Conner Opens 2010's 1st Major with a 61

Jennifer Song's pro debut went just fine at the Tate & Lyle Players Championship on the Futures Tour yesterday--she shot a bogey-free 68 that put her T10 (with money-list leader Cindy LaCrosse, no less, not to mention Tiffany Joh and NYer Nannette Hill). But she was 7 shots off the lead thanks to an amazing 10-birdie 61 from Manchester native Rachel Connor. Check out Lisa Mickey's game story for more on Connor's round and the soaking-wet course conditions. Me, I'm noticing that Christine Song has a lot of ground to make up to get her 3rd consecutive win on tour (she's 8 back), Esther Choe shot a fine 66, Hannah Yun bounced back nicely from her MC last week with an opening 70, and that Elisa Serramia matched Connor's front-side 29 and right behind them were Chelsea Curtis with a 30 and Amanda Mathis with a 31. Now that's some golfing! I wonder if the eventual winner will be the player who takes best advantage of the vulnerable front or tames the tougher back?
