Picking up where those left on the course left off yesterday afternoon this morning at the State Farm Classic, Cristie Kerr went on a tear and took control of the tournament. Her bogey-free 63, which featured 6 birdies in 14 holes this morning, brought her to -19 overall and gave her a 3-shot lead on Anna Nordqvist, who made 5 birdies and a walkoff bogey this morning. 65s by Shanshan Feng (-15), Jee Young Lee (-14), and Morgan Pressel (-13), kept them in the hunt, along with Song-Hee Kim (66) and Na Yeon Choi (68) at -14, as well as Na On Min (64), Gwladys Nocera (67), and M.J. Hur (71) at -13. Ya Ni Tseng's 66 moved her up to -12, tied with Sun Young Yoo (67) but 7 shots is a lot to make up in 18 holes.
Through 54 holes, only Kerr, Nordqvist, Choi, Nocera, Yoo, and Hee Young Park had managed to avoid shooting in the 70s. That's 1/4 of the players double digits under par heading into the final round. But with Kerr 9 shots up on Inbee Park, the last player to get to -10, she has a great opportunity to force any challengers to go super-low. The lower she goes later today, the fewer players have any chance to catch her. Should make for some pretty compelling TV, with everyone shooting for the pins into soft greens--if the weather holds up!
