Mi-Jeong Jeon overcame an early double bogey to match Kaori Aoyama's opening 66 in the Nichirei PGM Ladies and put herself in excellent position to become the JLPGA's 1st repeat winner of 2010. But others who have also won this season are lurking--Miho Koga trails the leaders by only 3 shots, Sakura Yokomine and Sun-Ju Ahn by 4, Rui Kitada by 5, and Chie Arimura by 6--while many players are in Aoyama's shoes, seeking their 1st victory of the season (and, for some, of their careers).
Here's where the top 10 and notables stand heading into the weekend:
T1/-6 Mi-Jeong Jeon, Kaori Aoyama (66)
T3/-5 Ji-Woo Lee, Li-Ying Ye, Hiromi Takesue (67)
T6/-3 Miho Koga, Ayako Uehara, Hiromi Mogi, So-Hee Kim, Izumi Narita (69)
T11/-2 Sakura Yokomine, Sun-Ju Ahn, Young Kim, Nikki Campbell, Hyun-Ju Shin, Miki Saiki, Kumiko Kaneda (70)
T22/-1 Rui Kitada, Akane Iijima, Na-Ri Kim, Yukari Baba, Saiki Fujita, Rikako Morita (71)
T36/E Chie Arimura, Akiko Fukushima, Shinobu Moromizato, Asako Fujimoto, Mie Nakata, Na-Ri Lee, Ritsuko Ryu (72)
T51/+1 Yuki Ichinose (73)
T60/+2 Ji-Hee Lee, Yun-Jye Wei, Jae-Hee Bae (74)
T64/+3 Esther Lee, Maiko Wakabayashi, Mai Arai (75)
T75/+4 Yuri Fudoh, Mayu Hattori, Erina Hara (76)
T84/+5 Ah-Reum Hwang (77)

The 1st, 10th, and 18th are short par 5, so I'm keeping an eagle watch out on them. Sun-Ju Ahn eagled the 1st (and have it right back with a double on the 3rd), while Uehara, Ye, and Hiroko Ayada eagled the 10th and Na-Ri Kim and Yumiko Yoshida eagled the 18th (the latter almost offsetting an earlier triple on the back!). So don't count out those who got off to bad starts just yet--it looks like there's a round in the low 60s out there for someone who gets really hot on the weekend!
