Corona Championship Saturday: Superlative Watch--Ochoa Shoots 3rd Straight 66

Lorena Ochoa has done it again--another 66 at Tres Marias, bringing her total after three rounds to -21 in the Corona Championship and her lead to 5 shots over Inbee Park. Karine Icher was the only player in the field not to lose further ground to Ochoa; her 66 brought her to -12 for the tournament, T4 with Na Yeon Choi (70) and 1 shot behind Song-Hee Kim (71). Contrast that with rookie Hee Young Park, who not only lost 14 shots to Ochoa but also fell back to E, T17 with struggling star Hee-Won Han.

There's nothing left to do but start a Mostly Harmless Superlative Watch. Be back later with stories from the golfy media and the LPGA bloggers. Hope nobody strains themselves--or the language....

[Update 1 (7:21 pm): Stupid LPGA.com. It turns out Ochoa's lead is 7 on Park, thanks to a triple-bogey 8 on the 18th for Inbee. And Choi is actually 1 shot behind Icher. To top it off, the AP story is about as deadpan as you can get on someone about to become the youngest player in LPGA history to qualify for the Hall of Fame.]

[Update 2 (7:50 pm): Hound Dog lays down the gauntlet with his "Another day, another 66 for the World’s Number One." We'll see how the world responds!]

[Update 3 (4/13/08, 1:50 pm): Hound Dog reminds us Karrie Webb made it to the HOF at a younger age than Ochoa.]

The funky lpga.com board got us both again. Park took 8 at 18 and is seven back. This one is over.

Congrats to the newest Hall of Famer!

Thanks for the tip, HD! Wow, imagine if Inbee had eagled the hole instead--only 2 back.... Heh.
