Kraft Nabisco Championship Saturday: Movin', Movin', Movin'

As in Cristie Kerr (7 birdies in her first 11 holes, T1 at -5), Suzann Pettersen (her 65 brought her from the cut line to T10 so far at -2), and Karrie Webb (a 32 on the front, which included 2 birdies and a hole-in-one on the 8th hole, marred only by a bogey on the 10th; T17 at -1 so far). Something woke up the big names in the Kraft Nabisco Championship! More later!

[Update 1 (6:16 pm): Whoops, LPGA.com made a mistake--when Kerr turned in her card, it turns out she "only" had 5 birdies in her first 11 holes. So her 67 puts her T6, 2 shots back of Ochoa and Young thus far. Pettersen is T8, one back of Kerr. Other players making big moves up the leaderboard are Seon Hwa Lee, who's playing bogey-free golf through her first 14 holes today and at -4 for the tournament sits 1 shot back of the leaders; Inbee Park, who's followed up a first-hole bogey with 4 birdies in her next 10 holes to match Lee; and Na Yeon Choi, whose 69 gets her to -1 and gives her a chance to be in the top 10 by the end of the day.]

[Update 2 (6:48 pm): Whoops, again! LPGA.com can't make up its mind on Kerr's round--now it's a 66, which puts her at -4 (T5). Webb matched Choi's 69, and they're both T12 at -1. Tied with Ochoa and Young at -6 is Hee-Won Han, who made consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th, picking up where she left off on the 2nd, and has a bogey-free round going thus far. But people are moving backwards, too. On their rounds today, Jee Young Lee is +3 through 16 (T26), Ai Miyazato is +3 through 13 (T19), and Mi Hyun Kim is +3 through 11 (T12). Annika Sorenstam was +4 through 8 but has battled back with birdies on the 10th and 11th.]

[Update 3 (6:55 pm): Speaking of moving backwards, Momoko Ueda got it to -1 on the tournament thanks to three birdies in a row on the 4th through 6th holes, but bogeyed the 8th and shot a 42 on the back to fall back to +6 on the tournament (T52). And aargh, Mi Hyun Kim is now +4 on her round.]

[Update 4 (4/6/08, 1:45 am): Mulligan Stu and Hound Dog cover those with a chance to win, so I'll focus a bit on the people who moved backward so far they're out of the tournament. Let's start with the Japanese contingent, all of whom except Yokomine were under par at one point during Saturday's round: Ai-chan (77, +3, T22), Shiho Ohyama (76, +4, T31), Sakura Yokomine (72, +5, T42), and Momoko Ueda (76, +6, T51) are in good company--Angela Stanford (+3), Jee Young Lee (+3), Morgan Pressel (+3), Shi Hyun Ahn (+4), Ji-Yai Shin (+4), Angela Park (+5), Laura Davies (+6), Lindsey Wright (+6), and Moira Dunn (+6) either fell back with them or were already there waiting for them in the middle of the pack--but they'll need to draw on some good old-fashionded Japanese gaman to get close to E on the tournament. Well, that just about covers everyone I thought had a good chance to be in the top 20 heading into Sunday.]

[Update 5: Catching up on my reading: the Se Ri-port and Doug Ferguson's AP story (why is he back on the LPGA beat this week? it's not a bad story, but typically he misses the significance of Seon Hwa Lee's round).]
