Lisa Mickey has the news on the 1st-round leaders at Futures Tour Q-School. Here are some of the scores that stand out to me:
[Note: They're playing on 4 different courses; B=Bridgewater, H=Huntington Hills, L=Lake Region, R=Ridgewood Lakes]
T1/-5 Tiffany Joh (67L)
T22/-1 Mariajo Uribe (71H), Mallory Blackwelder (71R)
T38/E Nannette Hill (72R)
T57/+1 Virada Nirapathpongporn (73H), Maiya Tanaka (73B)
T78/+2 Rebecca Kim (74H), Cindy Miller (74H)
T109/+3 Woori Shin (75L)
T136/+4 Miriam Nagl (76L), Jillian Fraccola (76L), Mariko Makabe (76H)
T167/+5 Mallory Hetzel (77B), Elena Kurokawa (77H), Eri Miyake (77L)
T196/+6 Kelly Nakashima (78B)
T218/+7 Kira Meixner (79H)
T276/+14 Yukiko Ishizaka (86R), Paula Pearson-Tucker (86B)
It's still too soon to say that T-Joh's all the way back, as she relied on a hot putter and solid iron play. Once she makes friends with her driver again, watch out for her!
I missed the last NYer in the field in my preview, so I'm disappointed to report that Jeanine Aronica (Garden City) missed the 18-hole cut. I'm also disappointed (but not quite surprised) that Azahara Munoz isn't actually playing in this event (either Mickey confused her with Debbie Munoz or she DNSed!).
Here are today's pairings--different partners, different courses for everyone. Looking forward to seeing how T-Joh handles Ridgewood Lakes!
[Update 1 (11/4/09, 8:36 pm): Lisa Mickey emailed me to report that Azahara Munoz never WDed or notified the FT office she planned not to start. My best guess is that Munoz belatedly realized she has LET membership for 2010 thanks to her win this season, but forgot to notify the FT folks she didn't need/plan to play in their Q-School. So even if LPGA Q-School doesn't work out for her--or if she gets lower-status membership like Anna Nordqvist did--she still has the LET to fall back on. Looks like she won't even have to play in their Q-School, as Nordqvist did.]

Keep your eye on Stephanie Connelly (3 under Monday). A buddy of mine has been caddying for her this fall. She won the LPGA sectional in Venice and could be a big surprise at the final stage next month in Daytona.
Interesting. The format on the Duramed Futures Tour home page says that everybody will play all four courses once, so how can you make an 18 hole cut when you're playing on 4 courses ? They cut 9 players - statistically meaningless except that they were so far out of contention, it would be a waste of time for them to even tee it up...but what would it hurt ?
Then they make a cut for the final round on one course ? That's going to be one long final round.
Go get 'em T Joh ! Get that driver fixed so you can get through LPGA Q-school next month and donate your Duramed card to charity.
Hmm - only 4 Georgians in this tournament...and 2 of them are amateurs.
CG, Lisa Mickey emailed me to say that the FT has an "87 rule" in Q-School. The reason is that since everyone who finishes Q-School gets some sort of status on the FT, they want to eliminate in advance those players in danger of running into their regular-season rule: if you shoot 87 or worse 3 times during a season, you're out for the rest of it.
